Cheese & Pepperoni Calzone


Ingredients
  • ¾ cup Galbani® Whole Milk Ricotta Cheese
  • ½ cup Galbani® Mozzarella Cheese, hand shredded
  • 1 Tbsp. Galbani® Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • Shortening
  • 8 oz. pizza dough
  • 10 slices of pepperoni
  • 5 fresh basil leaves
  • Garlic powder
  • Black pepper
  • 1 egg, beat to make egg wash
  • 1 tsp. sesame seeds
  • ½ cup tomato sauce

Directions

Grease a baking sheet with shortening and stretch out dough into large 9” circle.

Layer the ricotta, pepperoni, basil leaves, mozzarella down the center of the dough.

Season with Parmesan, garlic and black pepper.

Beat egg until blended.

Use some egg wash to coat the edges of the dough circle.

Gently pull the top half of dough over cheese mixture to line up edges and make a half-moon shape.

Press to completely seal the edges and crimp as desired.

Brush the dough with more egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Place in oven to bake at 425 degrees F for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.

Remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes.

Serve with tomato sauce for dipping.

Tips

Replace pepperoni with fresh spinach and mushrooms to make a delicious veggie calzone.
